What Are Your Plans For Labor Day Weekend?

Are you doing anything during this wonderful 3 day weekend?

For me and mine, we have family up from California. The kids have already taken them to the beautiful beach in Bandon where they were able to tour the Lighthouse, looked for rare rocks on the beach and some great shopping in Old Town Bandon. Love those little shops, and the best part of it all, they brought me back some fresh salt water taffy! Yum!

Thankfully Oregon weather is working in our favor as they again travel out to a different beach full of shells and sand dollars. Instead of the hot sun they are used to, they are enjoying 70 degree weather with blue skies and little to no wind.

What are your plans? Camping? Traveling? A little bit of DIY projects? Relaxing?

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Have wonderful Labor Day weekend!

  1. I'll be relaxing at home this weekend, working Sun & Mon. I never get a Monday off at Little Caesars (Inventory Day) so I'm the lucky employee who runs the store while the manager does that fun task. Stressful fun shift always! lol

Since I'm not paid until next week, requested Sat & Sun off for a change. Driving down to Coldwater MI to see a movie at the Capri drive-in on Saturday. We make a whole day of it, driving around the southern MI countryside taking in the sites. Probably stop into the Amish bakery for a bunch of goodies too while down there.
Might head over to Sturgis MI to grab dinner before the movie at Hot N' Now (yes we have one of those left!) Maybe even hit up the Kmart in Sturgis too.

Sunday Sept 8th the Catholic church here in Morrice MI does a festival every year the weekend after Labor Day which lasts Fri-Sun. Sunday they grill a TON of chicken on a huge grill behind their Parish Hall, dinner served at noon so I'll be hitting that up.

My parents house was across the street from the area they grill the chicken so growing up it was such a tease all morning smelling it cooking, the wait for noon when their church service was over was a killer. lol

A drive in? Wow! Those are so rare to have close by. I had always loved going and relaxing in my car watching the big screen. Good times and memories!

We are thinking of taking my 3 year old grand-daughter to go and see "Planes" tonight, so it will be her first experience in a movie theater. It has been over 5 years since I have gone, I was so shocked at the price these days. YIKES!

Your trip next week sounds heavenly! I love driving around and site seeing and visiting new places along the way. I have not heard of the "Hot N' Now" though.

I love the details on the "chicken grill", yummmm I can actually smell chicken and seasoning! What torture as a kid having to smell the grilling chicken and walking around with your mouth watering all morning LOL

I love hearing your memories for they always trigger good times from my past too!

Have a wonderful relaxing day today before working the next 2 days!

I'm envious of you-two's back 'n forth with Izel's plans ! Ditto on loving to hear all the details of his and your weekend plans, Wendy !

I will be doing my rear brakes on Monday ! My weekend was very nice already, with my regular visits of close friends today !!! Tomorrow is not planned yet (the best way yet to leave them :) !

      Hi yobarps!

I am sure tomorrows journey will bring you another great day of enjoyment!

Have wonderful rest of your weekend, and I hope the process of changing your brakes goes well!

Thanks a bundle, Wendy ! I hope that you all enjoyed the movies yesterday {^^,] !

We had a great time! If you have seen "Cars" (animated) and enjoyed it, you will really enjoy "Planes" too.

It is filled with more action that kept a 3 year old involved when watching. The music was great where she kept getting out of her chair to dance or sit in her sit bobbing her head to the music. All in all I think it was a wonderful first experience for her.

      Have a wonderful day!

Terrific ! I plan on buying all of those sets eventually(I adore the Pixar thing) ! It seems that I have gotten away from many of today's latest and greatest themes for adults, so cartoons and such are my 'fall-back' love these days.... Until the next alien-uncovering movie comes out, you know !

An awesome day to you too, my sweet friend :)

My grand-daughter has uncovered all of our old VHS classics and is loving "Sleeping Beauty" so far. Princess Aurora of course was her Birthday Theme last weekend. I have always loved watching them all and never get tired of watching them over and over again. We are slowly but surely adding all the new kid movies to this collection for which she is totally enjoying.

But I think what shocked me the most of going to the movies last night was the price! YIKES! It has been quite awhile since I have gone but how can one afford to even see the new releases for adults as well as children? We spent over $80 for 5 adults and 1 child (popcorn included of course).

My my, I really miss those drive-in days where it was $5 for a carload.

Izel, how much are the drive- in's now? Just curious!

    8. In response to izel8326

Only $80 ? That means that you didn't get drinks, dogs or nachos, nor candy, LOL !!! You probably didn't see any drinking fountains either (they got all of their bases covered for sure!)

A couple of years ago, I smelled that someone brought in a whole pizza with them from outside !

    9. In response to izel8326

Oops, yes we had 3 soda drinks and 2 waters. Plus they went back for candy for which I did not add. What shocked me was I had bought a large bottled water and wanted a cup of ice for it, they were going to charge me $5 for it. Shocking!!!

Plus, come to think of it, I did not see any drinking fountains for the grand-baby would have spotted those a mile away for she was up and down the halls until we were able to be seated.

Its amazing what people sneak in LOL

They would have had to wrap it in foil and put in a women's over-sized hand bag wouldn't you think?

      Love it!!!

    10. In response to izel8326

Yeah, it's truly shocking, alright !
Funny how you and Izel mentioned drive-ins - MSN news has a story this morning about them. They're not doing too well :( . . .

It's nice that the few of them that are left can still provide a memorable experience :):) !
Happy Labor Day, Wendy {``, !

You would think that the drive-in would prosper for it is so much more cheaper to go and watch a movie.

We had one about 30 minutes away from us outside of Salem, but could never get the time to take the kids. I regret it now for it would have been a great experience for them. Maybe some day...

      Happy Labor Day Yobarps!

We went to a local one about 30mins from our house this past Saturday, it along with the one down in Coldwater MI we're going to next weekend have been fortunate enough to afford the digital upgrade all theaters are being forced to switch to.

Another drive-in movie theater opened up in Ionia MI this year (Danny Boys) which shows only PG & G rated movies. That one is a little different because they use one of those inflatable screens due to local codes since its near a small airport.

For those of you who've never heard of Hot N' Now, it is a fast food chain owned by Burger Time. Hot N' Now originally started in Michigan just like Kmart, expanding to a few midwest states even with many locations. Guess there are only two left, one near Kmart in Bay City MI & the one near Kmart in Sturgis MI. Like those drive-in movies they are a rarity. :-)

    13. In response to izel8326

Wow! That is great to hear that you have a few close by. I have never seen an inflatable screen before, that would be quite interesting for me to see.

Are they still charging by the car load or do they have a different set up now? Do you purchase any popcorn or drinks there? If so, how are they compared to the walk-ins? Sorry for all the questions, I just think it is wonderful to have that option!

In the description about the Hot N'Now reminds me of a a little place in Southern Calif. It is the one place we visit always when we go down to visit family. They have the best hamburgers and shakes that I have ever had in my life!

      Happy Labor Day Izel!

    14. In response to izel8326

The Capri-drive in down in Coldwater MI has a carload special, believe its only $20. Last I knew it was only $4 per person otherwise which is still VERY cheap! :-)

Hey, you're going in my direction of the Mitten State, friend.

ooh, maybe sometime you'll visit my go-to Kmart in downtown Battle Creek, MI, nearest my home.

It's 27 miles north and slight west of Coldwater. It ain't near a Hot n' Now but they've got Horrocks farm market across the street.

Of course you'd have to invite me to shop with you! LoL
Yes, I know you're supposed to meet internet folks, but hey it's a trust issue

      I'm just dreamin' anyhoo..
      probably won't happen.

Battle Creek's the home of Kellogg's cereal and snack company.

      Happy trails!

perhaps Five Guys Burgers & Fries? They recently opened sum shops up here in West Michigan.

    17. In response to izel8326

in response to Wendy that comment

    18. In response to izel8326

Oh my! Now that is what I would spend on seeing a movie! LOL

    19. In response to izel8326

They are really good PrincessAM! Our Five Guys was just brought to Salem Or over a year ago. Our first visit was when they first opened for my sons Birthday, great burgers and all you can eat fries.

But when we went again to a new location that was just built down from our home, the had did away with all you can eat fries. But, the food was just as good, just wish they would add in the shakes and we would be all set LOL

I hear that they are award winning ! I haven't been there yet, though... :)

One of my former teachers from High School I'm still in frequent contact with shops at that Kmart. I still need to make it down to your area one of these weekends to hit up that casino. lol
