  1. Ants around plants are often a sign of aphids. The aphids excrete a sweet, sticky honeydew that attracts ants. If you get rid of the aphids, you get rid of the ants. The easiest way to get rid of aphids is to spray the plant with an insecticidal soap spray, which can be purchased at the garden center of your local K-Mart. I also suggest placing one ant bait on the soil of each potted plant. The baits contain a component that is toxic to ants. Another option is to sprinkle diatomaceous earth (DE) around the base of your pots and along ant runs. Be sure to purchase DE for gardens and not for pools. Good luck!

The soap will also deter the aphids and help saturate the roots at the same time !
