  1. Hey webjockey -- no worries about using coastal hay (also known as coastal bermuda hay) as mulch in your veggie garden as it's one of the best of the hays for using as mulch. It's a finer hay, so it breaks down quickly and it doesn't produce seeds. Any seeds that do sprout are from weeds growing in the same field as the hay. Just top off the mulch with more hay and that will take care of sprouting weed seeds, though they are likely to be few. You are fortunate to have access to coastal hay!
