  1. The best time to plant sunflower seeds is now as they can be planted anytime from early spring to summer. The plants can go in the ground after your last expected spring frost, though sunflower plants can tolerate light frosts and temperatures to 25 degrees F. Sunflowers grow best in full sun but will do just fine in an area receiving at least six hours of direct summer sun. Your location of sun from noon till dark is fine. As an added bonus, the seed heads not only attract seed-eating birds, but the flowers are a great nectar source for butterflies.

Sunflowers are my favorite! I am so glad to hear they are easy to grow. Have been wanting to plant these in my backyard for ages, but thought they needed so much more light.
