  1. Your best bet for your shady area is to go with a cool season grass. For areas with partial to moderate shade, look for single grasses or mixes containing rye, Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, creeping red fescue, or a fine fescue mix. Fescue also does quite well in a lawn with trees. And any fine fescue blend will do well in areas with moderate to dense shade. Good luck!
