Are there any flowers besides impatiens that grow in the shade?
- Oakland, OR
Impatiens are indeed a lovely plant for shade, but there are many options to consider. One with a somewhat similar feel is wax begonia. Other annuals that brighten shady areas with their colorful blooms and sometimes unique foliage include browallia, torenia, lobelia, viola, and fuchsia. Add perennials to the mix for continual color year after year. Hardy choices for your area include primrose, columbine (Aquilegia), coral bells (Heuchera), astilbe, hardy cyclamen, lungwort (Pulmonaria), azalea (Rhododendron), and corydalis--a personal favorite. See you in the garden!
