Make a Baked Pear Dessert
Skip the high-calorie, high-fat offerings you find at most dinner parties and have something simple, elegant and low in fat. Pears may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of dessert, but roasting brings out their flavor and you can “dress them up” with low-fat ice cream or yogurt. Here’s how to make a delicious baked pear dessert.
What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 of an Organic Bosc Pear for each guest
- Apple juice
- Cinnamon sugar
- Chopped walnuts
- Low-fat vanilla ice cream or yogurt
Slice the bottom from each pear and place them upright in a glass baking dish. Pour apple juice into the bottom of the baking dish to about 1/2 inch deep. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon sugar. Cook the pears in a 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for about one hour, basting the pears every 15 minutes with the apple juice. Transfer to serving dishes, spoon some apple juice over each pear and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Serve with low-fat yogurt or ice cream.
