Fall Cleaning Tips

Everyone knows that your house deserves a good cleaning in the spring but fall cleaning really isn’t on most of our schedules.  Summer is that wonderful time when we open up our windows and doors to the outside. By fall, we have a home that is filled with pollen and dust.  We need to give our home a good cleaning to get rid of all of that dirt. Here are some tips to make your fall cleaning easier.

Start with a checklist- Write down everything that needs to be cleaned so that you can check it off once it’s done. The list will give you a sense of accomplishment.

Use your dryer– Who has time to wash, dry and iron curtains? Instead, put them directly in the dryer and tumble for 15 minutes. This will remove the dust, pollen and even dust mites.

Your dishwasher can be a great assistant – Don’t bother dusting your knick-knacks. Instead, place your them in the dishwasher. Check to make sure they won’t be damaged by hot water or detergent. Place them on the top shelf and they will come out sparkling clean.

Replace a dusting rag and spray bottle with your vacuum – Instead of dusting with the traditional dust rag, try using the dusting brush attachment on your vacuum. Women in Germany always use their vacuum to dust because it is easier and gets into places a cloth can’t reach. It also keeps the dust from entering into the air as the dust is captured inside the vacuum.

Carry your cleaning products in a bucket or caddy. This will save you time and keep you organized. You will be surprised how much time you can waste by going back and forth to the supply cabinet to get different cleaning items.

Get that “cloths line” scent without the hanging – Everyone loves the smell of sheets dried on a clothes line, but no one has the time. Instead dry the sheets in your dryer and then make your own linen spray with vodka and a few drops of lavender oil. This will give you a lovely scent for your bed linens.

“Wash” your walls with a microfiber mop. Our generation doesn’t have time to wash walls. Instead dry dust them with a microfiber mop. The microfiber will catch and hold all the dust so you can clean the walls very quickly. If you have a large buildup of dust, you can just spritz some water on the microfiber cover to pick up even more dust.
