There are many uses for a water pump that can work while submerged. Moving water in pools and ponds, draining standing water and other such tasks are best done with one of these aquatic pumps.

One of the keys to keeping pool water from becoming stagnant is using a pool filter pump. These pumps move pool water through a filter to keep it clean and in motion. The availability of different sizes of pumps allow you to select the ones that will work best with the water volume of your pool. When the filter cartridge finally gets dirty, don't worry; replacement filters are readily available.

If you need to keep water moving without filtering it, try a pond pump. These pumps keep water in motion to help avoid stagnation but leave organic matter in the water to feed snails and other aquatic life. Pumps with filters are also available if you need filtration capability. For added visual interest, try a pond pump with an attached fountainhead. This makes it easy to get the sights and sounds of rushing water without the need for extensive extra plumbing work.

For tasks like bringing water to a sprinkler system, utility pumps are excellent choices. These pumps use a suction hose to draw water from its source and send it through the pump. Utility pumps are also good for draining clean standing water from basements, kiddy pools and other such locations. If the water you're working with is likely to have sand or chunks of debris in it, go for a semi-trash pump or a full-on trash pump. These pumps are made to handle abrasives, chunks of solid material and other such debris that regular pumps can't deal with.
