DVD Players for Your Home Theater

A DVD player or recorder is the centerpiece of any home theater. DVDs present a clearer image and better sound than VHS tapes, and thanks to new features like Internet connectivity, newer DVD players from companies like Sony, Magnavox and Samsung are a complete home entertainment solution. Sears has high-quality DVD players and recorders for an improved movie viewing experience.

With the recent popularity of high definition televisions, many DVD player manufacturers have introduced new features to take advantage of the capabilities of modern televisions. Upconverting DVD players can simulate a better-than-average resolution, basically giving a DVD a high definition appearance. Progressive scan plays DVDs at 720p rather than 720i resolution, which means better image stability and clarity.

Although upconverting DVD players can provide a tremendous experience, a Bluray DVD player is necessary for true high definition entertainment. Bluray DVD players are capable of resolutions as high as 1080p, which takes full advantage of a top-of-the-line HDTV's hardware. 3D Bluray players can also play 3D movies on a compatible HDTV with the appropriate accessories.

Still, non-Bluray DVD players aren't necessarily limited to standard DVDs. VHS-DVD combination players are a great way to watch DVDs along with old cassettes and family videos. Internet-capable DVD players use a home's WiFi connection to access networks like Alphaline, which has hundreds of movies and television shows available for on-demand access.

While a DVD player provides a much clearer image and superior sound quality to a VHS deck, standard DVD players don't have a record function for saving home videos, movies and television shows. DVD recorders remedy this problem, as they're capable of instantly recording video and sound onto special DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW discs. Recorders can be programmed like a VCR to record television and many can accept a video input from any source, including home camcorders and other video equipment.

With next-generation DVD players and recorders from Sears, it's easy to bring a home theater system to life.
