I was told that there was not much difference between the original Diaper Genie and the newer ones, so if I could get the original, do so. I was able to find one for $2.50 on clearance and was worried that I wouldn't be able to find the refills. But they still carry them here!

diaper genie refill is great for bad odors September 09, 2010
I had used the diaper genie refills since my son was born until he got potty trainned. These refills are easy to put in the diaper genie and keep the bad odors from getting in the baby bedroom. Sometimes you can have problems when closing the diaper genie, the refill won't twist.

inexpensive and it works!,Smells nice and clean.I would give this product 5 stars because it truly works great.It smells nice and KMART sells them at a very low price.

Keeps the baby smells at bay at a fair price September 13, 2010

noisyThree kids later and we still have the same diaper disposal system..that should say enough! The diaper genie was a gift at my baby shower, I didn't even know why I needed one until baby number one was born! the twist system is reminiscent of using individual plastic bags tied up to keep the odors in. There is a learning curve to be dealt with, but after a week or so, anyone can be a pro!
The refills are a good deal. They last a while and we usually stock up 5-6 per shopping trip, especially when they are on sale. There is a light scent to the plastic to 'mask' the baby odors but not overbearing. I would say that you could stack in maybe 10 diapers before needing empty the container.
All in all a definite new mommy must have. Pretty easy to use. Refills are fairly inexpensive and last a while, and the system is pretty user friendly. Great as a baby shower gift. Oh, and lasts quite a long time!
