After not seeing my cousins for over a decade, one of the first things we did together at the reunion was play scrabble. We shared childhood memories and laughs at our super competitive scrabble table; and rejoiced as our children laughed and created memories with their cousins at their own scrabble table. Scrabble is what bonds our family for generations. :)

I never thought I would be better at this game than my husband. He grew up reading books while I grew up watching TV. I'm always asking him what certain words mean. He comes up with better words for this game, but I take advantage of the double or triple word/letter scores on the board more than he does.

Great family game for after dinner. I am a terrible speller so I usually have to have a dictionary close by, but we have a lot of fun playing anyways. Sometimes we do an overall theme/category and then try to only make words that fit that theme, which is a lot harder. We have a great time and my brother has learned new vocabulary words due to playing this game.

When I came to the United States a few years ago, I used to play this game with my husband all the time. It helped me improve my English vocabulary quite a bit, although I was often tempted to create words in my language. Would recommend to anybody who wants to improve their language skills.

Scrabble is a game that at first glance appears to be about knowing all the words available to you with the few letters in your possession.  In actuality knowing how to lay those letters down on triple word scores, et cetera, is far more important.  I enjoy a game of scrabble now and again, but much prefer most other board games.  One good thing about scrabble is that it works well with 2 people.  With more than 4 people you should probably play "speed scrabble" which uses the tiles included in this game.  You can look the rules up online.
