Reviewers may have received a benefit, like a sweepstakes entry or rewards program points, in exchange for writing a review.
Those benefits were not conditioned on the positive or negative content of the review.
Used maybe 5 times over a year and doesn't work anymore.
I bought at Kmart and lost the receipt so I can't return it.
Recommend you spend your money on a USA made product.

Does not play well with others: Drops out on engine start mode; goes in & out of charge mode when it should continue. Less useful than my 1977 model.

I have bought and returned 3 different Schumacher chargers over the past 2 days because of problems. I finally went to Sears and found this charger on sale. I liked it because it would charge both 6V and 12V batteries; had a reverse polarity cutoff switch; and allowed the user to select from 4 different battery settings. The only thing it lacked was an ON/OFF switch--you plugged the charger into a power cord to turn it on. This charger worked quickly and accurately--I measured the voltage with a multimeter to verify the charge when charging was completed. If you are having problems with buying a battery charger, try this unit. This is the Gold unit and is similar to the Platinum charger except the Platinum charger does not charge 6V batteries.

If there was a rating less than 1 star I would have given it to this charger. I bought this to charge my 6v RV Batteries. Wanted to charge each separately to help equalize them. I disconnected the batteries from the coach and proceeded to charge the first one. It initially said 65% charge. I started charging at 12 amps for about 30 minutes. Then I changed rate to 30 amps. It charged for about 2 hours but display did not change from 65% So I unplugged it and plugged it back in... Now it said 69%. I then set it to 30 amps and it started increasing charge percent every few minutes. Got to about 77% and sat there.. A couple hours later I checked on it and it was off. I tried unplugging and replugging in but nothing on the display. I noticed the transformer seemed pretty warm so I let it cool down. After cooling same result... DEAD CHARGER. So it appears this charger does NOT have a thermal shutdown if it gets hot... it just dies! I also noticed when it WAS working that it would increase the voltage to about 7.5v and then the percentage would go up one point, then the voltage would go down to 7v. It seemed to cycle this way until it does the 'lockup' everyone is talking about here. I do not recommend this charger.... unreliable

I bought one of these about a year ago to recharge a truck battery after I'd left my lights on, and to float charge a gel-cell battery. It worked well, except that it reset and did not re-start after power outages. Not a big deal for most people, but a pain for keeping a float charge going. The fan started out quiet, but got noisy within a month or so. Sounded like a bearing was going. About six months of use and the fan died. My suggestion would be for them to use a computer-style fan without a bearing; I've had desktop machines running for five years or more with no fan failures. I finally found my receipt, so I'll take advantage of their three-year warranty on this charger.

I purchased this charger for use on many types of batteries I own; automobile, motorcycle, garden tractor, deep cycle etc. It has worked flawlessly on every battery so far, even bringing a deep cycle battery I thought was hopeless up to full charge. It works far better than any charger I have owned in the past, and I have had quite a few. I cannot comment on its long term durability since I have only owned it for a couple of months, but it does what it advertises and does it well so far.

I needed a batery charger for my Craftman lawn tractor, which by the way was delivered to my house with a low battery. I took the time to charge it using my cars battery and was able to mow my lawn for a few weekends before it ran low again. Realizing that the battery was the issue I decided to purchase this battery charger from Sears since I had bought the lawn tractor there as well. In my opinion this charger is not worth the cardboard box it came in. From the very moment I attached the cables to the battery and plugged it in, it has not worked, The red check light came on and no matter what I do or setting I select it remains on and will not charge the battery. I have left it plugged in for several hours in the silly belief that perhaps it just needed to "think" for a littl bit before going to work...*sigh*. Thoroughly disappointed and tired of fiddling around with it trying to get it to work, I plan on returning it to Sears in the morning.

This is without a doubt the best charger I have ever owned... it's worth the money... I use it for so many things.... from charging my riding mower battery, to charging my boat and car batteries... overall I am very pleased with this charger... And I can tell it is built to last... :)

I stupidly bought this charger without reading any of the interviews. I got it home and connected it to my 2 deep cycle 12v RV batteries. It finally decided to come on (there's no on/off switch) and said my batteries were 45% charged. This charger brought them up to 65% fairly quickly (within an hour) and then it took another 2 hours to get up to 67% where it just stayed. It would not go any higher than 67%. That's when I came inside and read the reviews here. I found out that most people have the same problem with this charger... it's really not "automatic". You have to constantly fiddle with it to get it do do it's job. So, I reconnected it, it came on and said it was charging. I went back outside to the RV to check the charger and noticed it was now blinking red and not charging. That's when I packed it back up in its box. I'm not interested in babysitting a battery charger to make sure it does its job. I have an old Schuumaker that I've been using for 10 years without issue. The only reason I bought this die hard charger was that I wanted an automatic charger to take the guess work out of charging my batteries. I'd rather use my 10 year old Schuumaker charger than this annoying diehard. I returned it today. I really wouldn't recommend buying this charger.
