Schwinn (a.k.a. Pacific-Cycle) mass produces inexpensive bicycles & sells them through discount stores. This is not the Schwinn as found in a real bicycle shop for several reasons. The number one reason would be quality. Discount store bikes use the cheapest components possible. Example: The Shimano Tourney rear derailleur vs. at least a better Shimano Altus, which may run $5.00 to $10.00 more. More? A 7 speed "freewheel" hub vs. a better "cassette" hub. I'll explain. A freewheel hub (gears) simply screw onto a thin axle. The cassette slides onto a spline on a thicker - stronger freehub & is held in place with a locking ring. As the late Sheldon Brown stated so well, "Over the last few years the Shimano "Freehub" has largely replaced the conventional threaded rear hub. It is sad to lose the brand interchangeability that formerly existed, but these hubs work so well that they have come to represent the new "standard." Most decent-quality bikes made since the late 1980s have used this greatly improved design."
More? The rims (or wheels) are a simple single wall design vs. the better & stronger double walled design. The combination of a cassette hub & double walled rims is the strongest, longest lasting design - able to take more use & abuse. More? Somewhere on all Schwinn discount store bikes is a warning sticker that reads, "This bicycle is not designed for competition, stunting, jumping or off-road use." Look for it - it's there. Why call it a "mountain bike"?
Frame sizes: Only one frame size available for those of "average" height - whatever that is. 5'4" tall? The bike is too tall for you. 6'2" tall? The bike is too small for you. A real bicycle shop offers many frame sizes to fit everyone from 4'10" tall to 6'2" tall or more in a mountain bike.
In short, if you plan on light street riding only, this bike may be OK. If you're an overweight person, or a person who plans on real off-road riding - look elsewhere - as in a REAL bicycle shop. Lastly, a real bicycle shop will offer at least one free check-up/tune-up. Some do it for a year...some for the life of the bike!

I just bought this bike as a Father's Day present for myself. The only thing I had to do was put on a water bottle. I got on it & rode for well over an hour & my Rear & legs were very fresh when I got done riding. Before when I rode my old Huffy Bike this long & this far my legs & rear woulkd hurt so bad that I could hardly walk.

I GOT THE SCHWINN MIRADA 26 " MOUNTIAN BIKE AS A GIFT FOR MY 67th BIRTHDAY. I HAVE NOT BEEN ON A BIKE IN ABOUT FOURTY- FIVE YEARS. THE FIRST THING I FELT WAS "BEING CENTER" AND "BALANCED" AND REALLY LOVING THE STYLE AND COLOR. I WAS SUPRISED BY THE SMOOTH RIDE AND HOW EASY THE GEARING WORKED. I AM OUT SHAPE AND SOMETIME SHORT OF BREATH. THIS BIKE IS SO EASY TO RIDE THAT I THINK I WILL ENJOY IT VERY MUCH AND ACTUALLY RIDE IT. THANKS SCHWINN FOR MAKING THE MIRADA 26.

Got the bike free at a garage sale. A throw in when I bought a bike carrier. It was in terrible condition but I fixed it, cleaned it up, preformed several adjustments, then had it tuned. I was surprised to find a bike that handled well, and seemed to be fine for trail riding. The seat is uncomfortable and I would suggest changing it out. Handle bars are not adjustable.

Schwinn is a great revered name in the world of bikes and the Schwinn Mirada continues that tradition. For a relatively inexpensive price you get excellent quality craftsmanship, a solid/sturdy bike with the smoothest of rides. I like taking it out by the lake whenever I get a chance. Too bad summer is over I am already looking forward to taking it out next year.

i checked out a bunch of bikes before i bought this one. this had the stuff i wanted. its a tall bike so i would not hit my stomach with my knees. had front suspension which is new to me but i like it. I was lucky to get mine already assembled. but even then i had to tighten a few things. so far it feels very strong, brakes work well. i think it will work for what i wanna do with it. i will mostly only be riding bike paths. compare it to hi end bikes and this would be a 500 bike.

Glad to see the other reviews are good on this bike because I feel I have bought a great bike for the price. A lot of more "serious" bicyclist might put this bike down because it is a store-bought bike and not from a bike shop. But, what I did was take it to a professional for a tune-up. That, I would recommend doing because at box-store you never know if it's a kid putting it together or someone who actually knows how to put a bike together. Even though I am an "avid" cyclist, I would not trust myself to put a bike together. All it needed was a rear-deraileur adjustment and just lubing it up. The ride is tremendous as compared to my "cheap" 10-speed mountain bike bought at K-Mart ($80) about 10 years ago. My husband and I were considering upgrading our bicycles and shopped at the bike shops. Well, after awhile I thought that $300 was too much for a "good" bike. So, we went to the box-stores and looked around there again. What caught my eye with the Mirada, was the solid looking frame and the look of the bike. Of course the price (under $200), was the deciding factor in my purchase! Performance wise, I am very happy with the bike. I went from 10-speeds to 21-speeds, so I can't believe how much faster and smoother I am riding! The suspension on this bike performs well and I feel I have a great ride because I didn't even have a suspension on my cheap-o bike! Sure, if you are a "serious" rider, off-roading or a triathelete, you would probably want a Trek because you will beat that thing to pieces. I will be riding mostly on a crushed-gravel path in the Cuyahoga Valley near Cleveland, Ohio and I feel this bike will be great for the conditions. Everything seems to be so smooth, shifting, pedaling, suspension that I am very happy with the bike! The shifting is smooth and easy and I am getting used to having all these speeds and gears! I am so glad that my husband and I upgraded our bikes and bought 2 bikes for the price of 1 "great" bike from the bike shops! Now, we can go out for dinner with our savings!

I bought this bike to get back in shape. So far the only problems that I have had are with the assembly. A trip to the local bike shop for a complete tune-up took care of the assembly problems. It rides smoothly and handles great. I have only had it on a few local bike paths and the streets in my neighborhood but it serves the purpose for which I bought it.

I'm just getting back into riding after a HARD crash that destroyed my old bike. This thing handles like a dream, is solid enough to carry a heavier man (like me, over 250 lbs.), and gear changes are quick and smooth. The only problems I've found are the seat post is a little weak (easily replaced at your local bike shop) and the valve stems on the tires can be a little difficult to match with an air hose. Still, 5 stars from me, I love my Mirada.
