I purchased a pair of these to see if they would hold up to the rigors of what they are called "desert boots". I'm serving my 3rd tour over here (Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, and Operation Enduring Freedom). I am an Air Force Vet currently serving as a contractor in Afghanistan (can't tell you where though, lol). Everyone, and I mean everyone relies upon their boots here. You have to protect your feet from the elements (blistering cold, heavy snow, ongoing rainy season, and of course the 100 plus degree desert heat). We practically live in our boots more than 12 hours a day, everyday, and I do mean everyday! I purchased these because I had previously bought a pair of the other desert boots that Kmart sells called the Kamaal. Those particular boots are INCREDIBLE to say the least. You cannot beat the price for them, not even at the other super mega competitor. The Kamaals are an 8" version with zippers for easy on and easy off. However, the style that I'm reviewing here is a 6" shorter version and does not have the zipper for easy access. Nevertheless, they still are very wearable boots. They are not the lightest boot out there, but they are far from the heaviest. I've tried other brands from Converse, Oakley, Nike, And 5.11 all of who make incredible desert boots for the Military and I can safely say that these $39 boots do just as good of a job as the companies I mentioned who sell their boots starting in the $100 range and go way up from there. Because of the job that I perform here in Afghanistan I am required to wear steel toe or composite toe boots for safety purposes. Ask anyone who has to wear safety toe boots how imortant comfort is when it comes to wearing safety boots or shoes all day and you will get horror stories of how they had to try several different styles to find the ones that work best for them and that probably the one they still wear today. Wearing a safety boot all day can be a tremendous headache and torture for your feet if you don't get a comfortable wearing shoe or boot. I can speak from truthfully and say that I have a nearly brand new pair of safety boots (from the other giant store) right now resting comfortably in my closet back home. I chose to bring these with me and they are the ones that I wore today while working. I could easily tell you that wearing a cheap or inexpensive boot without knowing anything about them is probably not a good idea, thus I wanted all to know that you will not go wrong with these boots. They perform exceptional, they last, they are extremely comfortable (both the steel toe and the non steel toe), and you will not find a better deal for a desert boot anywhere no matter where you search, trust me on that one! The only way you will be able to find these boots at a better price is to catch them when Kmart runs a sale. I got mine for $29, how can you got wrong at that price.
