volume is popped back up to 20 (loud) every time you turn off the player. plus, player makes a small sound in the headphones about once a second, clearly audible at the beginning & end of songs. and on top of that, the only a/c adapters i could find cost more than the player (about 30 bucks)!

I bought this Cd player because my old CD player was no longer working. I have bought other GPX products before and have been happy with their products. The sound is good and the buttons are easy to use. I would recommend this Cd player for the price and ease of use. It does go through the batteries, so make sure you have extra batteries or an adapter?

this was purchased to replace an rca portable cd player with fm radio that stopped working after only being used about 3-4 times over the course of 4 years. i loved the sound and features of the rca, even though i didn't consider it to be a top of the line name brand like sony or aiwa. my previous portable cd players from sony & aiwa lasted years with considerable usage. after starting to search for a replacement with the capability to play mp3 music, i was somewhat upset that none of the larger name brands offered such a product. yes, i realize that mp3 players have taken over the portable music industry. i might even own 2 or 4 devices that can play mp3's. but i simply want to be able to pop one of my mp3 burned cd's into a portable player to listen to at night. so when i discovered that coby & gpx both carried what i needed, i was thrilled. i was willing to drop my snobbish standards and preferences for large name brands, just to get the product. the first thing that came to mind after opening the package is that you get what you pay for. for the price, the unit feels pretty solid. but it takes about 3 tries with inserting the batteries before the player will start. the cd's are read in an acceptable amount of time. the sound quality, even with very expensive noice cancelling headphones isn't the greatest. there is a fair amount of hiss before the music even starts. turning up the volume to semi-deafening levels helps drown that out. so that's not too much of an issue for me. i truly was not expecting a mind-blowing listening experience. up to this point, my observations have been simply opinions. what i, or anyone else, feels is quality, is subjective. my last observation, however, is simply an indisputable fact. the fast forward/track skip button does not work. that wonderful little button that made cd's so much more awesome than cassette's, was useless on my player. so, i am going to return my gpx player for another one, because i know that in the world of manufacturing, there will always be some defective products shipped. its impossible to avoid because we humans make mistakes, and parts can be defective, but life goes on. the best thing we can do as consumers is give the manufacturers the opportunity to improve by letting them know about these kinds of defects, using the proper channels. give the company a second chance before assuming they are marketing inferior products.

The perfect gift for someone who still has a cassette player in their car.
