Best of the Best!
This is my 2nd Sony Bravia HDTV I got a 46" in 2009 and was very happy with it, and still am, I got a 40" for the master suite and hooked it up myself. I got my sister 1 for her birthday in 2010, and my brother liked it so much he just got a 55" smart 3D, I was amazed @ how far 3D has come.

Sony dropped the ball on this one!
I purchased one of these TV's on a Tues. of a week. Took home and had to wait a couple of days for HD installation from Directv. In examining the TV on Composite/component input the installer and I noticed really bad noise(picture). Boxed it back up and exchanged for the same Sony the next day. I was excited to finally have a Sony due to reputation. When I got the 2nd TV home the noise was not present in component/composite input & picture was great! However in an hour the picture dissappeared all together! Nothing!! Trouble shot with Directv and that wasn't the problem. Called Sony customer support and was told it must be a bad TV and to return to Sony for replacement. However the customer rep told me one thing on that day(TV would be in mail on Mon.) Called again the next day to check postal situation- TV was not in mail, they wanted other info. Provided info. Checked the next day and TV still wasn't in mail as I was told! After being lied to and disrespected by Sony Customer Service, plus none of their TV's working I boxed it back up and returned to Sears but they didn't have anymore 40" Sony Bravias. Being fed up with Sony I exchanged for a Samsung on sale with better spects, refresh rate and more inputs! Very happy with Samsung. Would never reccomend Sony products to anyone based on 2 defective TV's in one week ,plus the disrespect from Customer Service.

Overall
Sony Bravia as good as expected; superb

I have used Bravia TV's at work and have always been impressed with the picture quality. I finally bought one for myself and I am just as pleased. I have other top brand TV's and have been pleased, but this one is definitely the best. My 8 year old DLP TV dies on new years eve and I was planning on watching some football, so I checked online to see who was still open (7:30 pm) and ran off to the closest store. They had a few brands in the 40 to 42 inch range and the Sony was only $20 more than the rest of them. I got it home, set it up in about 10 minutes, including attaching the base, and was watching HDTV once again. I was initially extremely impressed with the picture quality and watched the re-play of the new years eve game that night. Compared to other 60Hz 1080p HDTVs, I would say that the Sony Bravia line is exceptional. I just wish there were more HDMI ports since the PlayStation and Xbox have already used up the two available. I do not think I could have made a better choice.

Beautiful picture.

We purchased the exact one in a 32" about a year ago.  Our 23yr. old RCA kicked the bucket, so we decided to put the 32" in our TV room and purchased this 40" for our living room.   We have had good luck with Sony products.  Would recommend this TV.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not worth the price

I purchased this tv 2 days ago got it home hooked it up an realized in the upper left hand and right hand corners the screen was white almost like to spot lights shining up into the sky forming a v into the middle of the screen. They are mostly seen in dark scenes durning a movie or just when the screen gets dark they are so bright it covers up some of the picture I tried lowering the back light and brightness but it didn't effect the lights at all so I returned it thinking it was defective and today revived my new one hooked it up and no lights I wa happy till about 30 minutes of use and the lighting showed up. I reget buying the tv and wish I'd have bought a Vizio They might be less responsive on games but at least I can see the tv.
