The Essential Home Aluminum Cookware Set is a good value. August 03, 2010
The Essential Home 10 Piece Soft Grip Aluminum Cookware Set provides the necessary pans for anyone to get started in a kitchen. Two frying pans, two saucepans with lids and a dutch oven all for about forty dollars.
The pans all have nice handles that are soft, give a good grip and are sturdy. The covers are tough glass so they should not break and you can watch and see food cook. The pans are aluminum so it is nice and light with a Teflon brand nonstick interior so it should hold up to a lots of use.

good value but needs tlc December 05, 2011
The term essentials is used heavily in cookware and it can be discieving. Calphalons essentials is not the same. This set if cared for will provide you with a nice dinner. Most people know high heat is a detriment in nonstick cooking, it supposedly releases gasses and lowers its life. My stove is easily set at a 3/4 mark and I use this for a limit. It browns just fine but just takes a little longer. It is just too easy to set a burner at high for a warm up but its not the best practice. At the recommended heat, the pan should last longer- both the nonstick surface and its less likely to warp. Hand wash and dont put a very hot pan in cooler water right away. Teflon is great overall, but it is not meant for metal utensils or the dishwasher. Aluminum heats evenly and creates a nice meal for you. The outside is painted and is easily kept clean due to it being coated. The very bottoms are ridged aluminum, they heat well and I used a stronger cleaner about once a month to keep looking nice. The handles do not get hot and handle a warm oven but are not meant to be used to cook with in a hot oven for long temps. They do a good job on top of the stove and everyday. The glass top to the dutch oven does not match larger skillet but can be used with care if things splatter, I do wish it fit though. I am sure I will get my monies worth and you really can make a nice meal with them but they are not for the cook who is hard on them and doesnt understand how cookware materials are used. I prefer this outside coating over the hard anodized that cant be cleaned as easily, as I also like the set to sit outside and are seen by anyone who enters the kitchen. A budget price is what was needed but you can cook like a champ with some care.

WARNING: There are no lids for the skillets! June 11, 2011
I guess I should not have expected much from this set for the price, but still, 50 bucks is 50 bucks. In most comparable cookware sets, the lid from the large stockpot doubles as a lid for the large skillet. However, there were no lids that fit either skillet, rendering them useless to me. It's not like you can buy a lid to fit it seperately... I like to heat things at low heat without oil, and a lid is a necessity to hold the heat in to cook it evenly and thoroughly. Splatter guards hold no heat in, so they do not fit my purposes, either. Now, I am faced with having to spend another 25 bucks to simply get a skillet that has a lid...
The utensils are simply fluff, especially when you can pick them up at any dollar store. The small sauce pan is too small, and MIGHT hold a can of soup, but fills up with a can of vegetables. However, the quality seems to be good, with well constructed seams. The handles are cool to the touch, and this is important to me, also. Overall, I was disappointed, and I would not recommend this set. You can buy something comparable for the same price, which has lids you can actually use for cooking.

Gets the job done, even in a low oven! November 24, 2010
Pros:
price,versatileCons:
thinThe Essential Home Softgrip Aluminum cookware set is a great choice for first apartments, extra holiday cookware, or that sudden despicable peeling of nonstick that I call a "teflon emergency".
These are lightweight, dishwasher safe, and the handles are not only ergonomic, but they stay cool on the stove top. We care for ours by handwashing because It will last longer, and are careful never to use a metal tool or rough cleaning surface.
Essential Home set comes with all you need to get started, a fry pan, saucepans, and a large pot for pasta and soup, even two nylon tools to get you started!
Read the instructions before your first use and these will last you many years of happy times in the kitchen, as silly as it sounds. There are oven rules, and this photo is of a home made pie baked entirely IN the large frypan! Follow the temperature guidelines to safely get results like I did. Studies show that men love the smell of pumpkin or peach pie, vanilla, and berries!
Can you believe all this great little budget set can do?
