Too many problems to justify the cost; needs redesign

After having gone to Disney World and playing the "Toy Story Mania" game there, this was a "must-have" on my son's Christmas list.

We tried out this game and were very frustrated by several things.

First, there really aren't directions in the pamphlet included with the game.

Second, the cover makes a big deal about it being "in 3-D" so my son and I put on the 3-D glasses included, expecting everything to be in 3-D.  However, apparently the "3-D" aspect is something you have to unlock after playing through the game.  Again, not something that's really "spelled out" in the game pamphlet.

Third, there is no way to avoid the "practice session" at the start of the game.  Once you've done this a few times, there's no point in doing it again.  But, there's no way to "turn off" this feature.

Fourth, without a lot of instruction, you're sort of "guessing" as to what to play first.  Turns out, you have to select the "story" icon and play through all of the levels before you can access any of the other games.  My son and I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to play the "free play" games before finding out that we needed to go through the story first.

Fifth, and probably most frustrating, was the fact that the "targeting icon" needed to get the rings around various objects in the first-level "ring toss" game keeps freezing.  It doesn't matter whether you're moving the remote slowly or quickly; you'll be able to toss a ring around one object but when you try to move to another object, the remote doesn't respond.  After a few seconds, it finally does come back but you've lost precious seconds and that can make the difference in being able to advance to the next level of the game.  I finally contacted Disney Interactive about this issue and, after putting me on hold, the rep told me that this is "common" with people who have wide-screen tvs.  He also had me reset the sensor bar sensitivity which seemed to help, but the issue still does persist.

The first game, the "ring toss" requires you to satisfy at least 2 of 5 "objectives" in order to advance to the next level.  Again, there isn't enough information to really explain how to do this.  For example, one objective requires you to "ring 3 aliens in a row"; however, what they DON'T tell you, is that you have to ring 3 aliens before the first alien "blasts off".  The directions are not really complete enough so you end up getting the 3 aliens, ringing 4 rockets, etc., but don't achieve the objective.

Disney needs to go back and redesign this game.  They capitalize on the mania surrounding the game at WDW but the video version needs to have several things worked out.  The directions need to be clearer, the "targeting icon" bugs need to be worked out, and the instruction manual needs to contain instructions.

This is a pretty expensive video game, probably because it's so new but also because of the Disney name.  Again, we got ours on sale, but I don't think the game is worth the money.

One more thing...the levels require you to "spin" the remote faster and faster in order to gain bonus points.  After a few times, you find that your wrist/forearm hurt.
