St. Jude Children Research Hospital® is
internationally recognized for its pioneering
work in finding cures for children with cancer
and other catastrophic diseases. Doctors send
many of their toughest cases to St. Jude
because of the cutting-edge research and
revolutionary discoveries.
Among St. Jude noted medical advancements are:
| • | They have increased the survival rate of the most common form of childhood cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), from 4% to 94%. |
| • | St. Jude has discovered a way to lessen side effects, making radiation treatment more effective for virtually all cancers. |
| • | St. Jude was the first institution to cure sickle cell disease with a bone marrow transplant and has one of the largest pediatric sickle cell programs in the country. St. Jude is also the first center to receive government approval for a unique transplant procedure that makes it possible for parents who are not exact matches to be donors for their children. |
Breakthroughs at St. Jude are freely shared with
the scientific and medical community worldwide.
That's why St. Jude is called the "hospital
without walls."
No family ever pays for treatment that is
not covered by insurance, and families without
insurance are never asked to pay. They cover all
costs for treatment, travel, food and lodging for
patients and one family member. The
dedicated staff at St. Jude follows the
progress of the patients long after they
leave the hospital, providing follow-up
services, advice and assistance at no
charge to the patient.

Kmart for Kidssm supports St. Jude through
its annual Thanks and Giving® campaign:
an opportunity for Kmart customers to give
thanks for the healthy kids in their life, and
give to those who are not. In 2010, Kmart
for Kids raised $6.2 million for St. Jude
enough to fund the hospital for more than
five full days! This year Kmart for Kids
hopes to give even more support to
St. Jude. With your help, we can!
