At Sears, we have a variety of makes and models of garage door openers including Craftsmen, Genie, Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Mighty Mule, and many more. Besides an extensive array of brands, our garage door opener systems are available with your choice of features and accessories to fit your lifestyle and home.
Here are a few of the options and features you should keep in mind when purchasing a new garage door opener:
Types. Belt, chain, and screw drive are the three major garage door opener types. Deciding on which one is right for you depends upon lifestyle and preference.Horsepower. While a 1/2-horsepower garage door opener will work well on a standard two-car garage door, a 3/4 horsepower model is a better choice for heavy garage doors, such as carriage doors. When torn between more or less power, go with more power as the price difference usually is not substantial.
Battery Back Up. While not available as a standard feature on all models, some models contain a battery backup feature. When your electrical power goes out, the battery backup kicks in, enabling you to continue to use your electric garage door opener. A manual release is another important feature, which enables you to open the door manually in the event of a power failure.
Lights. Garage door openers typically are equipped with either one or two lights. If your garage door opener is your primary light source, you may want to consider an opener with two 100W lights. Motion-detector lighting is also available in some models, which automatically turns on lighting when it senses your presence.
Safety Features. Having a safe garage door opener in your home is most likely a pivotal concern, especially if you have pets or young children. Today's garage door opener systems use an infrared light beam sensor that automatically detects the presence of a pet or children beneath them, and stops the door from closing. In this way, you'll have peace of mind knowing that you do not have to worry about the garage door inadvertently closing and injuring a loved one. It will also protect your car from damage.
Another benefit of this safety feature: Should you suddenly realize you left your keys inside while the door is closing, you can stop the door to grab your keys. A delay feature is available on some systems, which provides you time to close the door, and then exit the garage without having to dive or jump over the infrared beam and descending door.
Security Features. A rolling code security feature prevents perpetrators from recording your code and replaying it to gain access to your home. What this means is that every time your garage door system is opened or closed, a new code is generated.
Advanced Features. Some advanced garage door opener features include the ability to connect to your Smartphone as well as laser beam parking assistance.
Accessories. Most garage door openers come with two standard remote controls. Some remote controls are simplistic, containing only one button to open and close the garage door. Other remote controls have multiple buttons, which can open and close more than one garage door or operate lights. Other accessories include extension kits and wireless keyless openers.
Warranty. Sears warranty features include lifetime on the door and up to six years on hardware.
While the many brands, price points, and features of garage door opener systems may seem daunting, a little research will help you find the perfect fit for you and your home. So come on over to Sears to pick out your shiny, new garage door opener.
