    I purchased this unit for my mother, who is in a nursing home. I am particular about my music, and have always used ONKYO components, so I was expecting this to be pretty so-so in sound quality, but OK for the type of music that she wanted to play. I selected it mainly for the convenience of Mom being able to pop in a mp3 or wma CD and let it play for hours without intervention. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!

    The bass response is impressive for a unit without a subwoofer, though there is a subwoofer input if you feel the need. The mids and highs are tight and accurate. It plays iPods, music files from whatever you want to attach to the USB port (flash drive, external hard drive), regular CDs, and mp3 or wma CDs. And it will shuffle it ALL, even the tracks on a CD or flash drive. Amazing!

    Whenever dear old Mom is tired of it, I'll be glad to inherit it and play it--it's that good.
