Pacific Evolution Mountain Bike is the best bang for your buck.

Pacific Evolution 20 Inch Girl's Mountain Bike is a great value, at just under 100 dollars for the features this bike has is an awesome deal. My daughter is eight and small for her age but I wanted to get her a bike that she could grow into and last for a few years. I shopped around pretty much everywhere that sold bikes I found one a a toy store for $120.00 the $10.00 assembly fee. it had all the same features as the Pacific except the frame was lighter but what i didnt like was the brakes on the one from the the toy store were cheap. On the pacific the brakes are much nicer, except for being heavier the pacific wins hands down for value. again i looked everywhere at the bike stores to get anything with gears was over $200.00, but dont get me wrong you do get what you pay for those higher end bikes were really nice. the pacific can be adjusted for a smaller child I had to lower the seat completely and move it forwoard you have to loosen the bolts on the sides of the seat to slide the seat forward, and you have to move the reflector to another location to be able to put the seat all the way down. there are also screws at the handbreak lever to be able to move them closer for a smaller hand, but in doing this you may have to adjust the tension on the handbreak cable by loosening the bolt at the end of the handbreak cable at the respective break housing, but be careful do not remove too much tension, you just need to be able to spin the tire without the breakpad touching the rin of the wheel. I actually rode the bike after getting it all tuned-up and i weigh 190 and the bike performed well.

Shifting...

This bike is worthless. There's no point in buying a bike with gears that the rider can't even upshift. We tried about a dozen of these at several different stores, & my fiance & I could barely upshift these. Our 7-year can't get it to upshift at all. Don't waste your time & $ like we did. "Returned"! Bye Bye!

When I bought this bike with my mom I was so exitced to try it out as soon as we got home. We did not have to assable it because off the shelf. I tryed it out, it was really great but way to strong of brakes, so we had to fix that. Overall its a fanstaic bike! I recommend to ANYONE who wants a good bike.

Overall
In a word? CHEAP! To much bike for $99 to build correctly!

Let me say, I am not bitter about this purchase. I knew $99 was too low of price for a bike with all these options... but I gave it a shot anyways. And the inevitable happened all to soon. The Pacific 20in Girls Evolution "Mountain Bike" looks like a mountain bike, but if you actually want to RIDE it "on a mountain", buy something else. I received the box in beat up condition. The bike was scratched & I couldn't get the seat to the lowest position due to a poor frame weld inside the mounting area. Assembly was pretty easy, but I was unable to get the seat and the handle bars as tight as they should be due to a poor hardware design. My 8 year old was unable to shift thru the gears because they were so hard to turn (I even had trouble turning it myself) and she finally gave up trying and peddled in 1 gear. Then, only 6 weeks later... it  broke! While my daughter was riding the gear "box" inside the rear wheel hub just gave out, sending her crashing to the ground. (She had her helmet on, and is ok.) I have NEVER seen a bike break inside the hub assembly. I guess if you are trying to build a bike for under $99, you have to use ALL the cheapest parts possible! Hey, the company has to make a profit too! Can't blame them for trying. On a Better Note... SEARS WAS WONDERFUL DURING THE RETURN PROCESS!!!  No questions asked, simply returned it to my local store and received a FULL REFUND! So if you want to by a bike from Sears online, don't worry, they will return it if you don't like it. So buy with confidence... Just don't buy THIS bike! (We got a Trek for her.... twice the price, but WOW.. IT IS NICE!)
