Kenmore  Humidifier with 14-Gallon Daily Output

The unit manages to maintain humidity at 35% to 40% in our 2100 sq. ft. three-story townhouse in Colorado, so I'm happy. One minor caveat: "trash" leftover from molding the plastic water tanks can get stuck in the check valves such that they fail to seal completely. The fix is easy - unscrew the valves and remove the obstruction - but this could cause a problem if you're not aware that it's happening.

Having owned Kenmore humidifiers in the past, I bought another one when the cabinet of my 8-year old one cracked. It totally stopped working (display lights wouldn't even come on) after 2 months. Brought it back, got another one, it did the exact same thing. Do not buy this humidifier!

I bought this 10 years ago. I would NEVER do winter without it. Yes, it is loudish but the difference it makes in the air is worth it. Without it I feel like I am dehydrating into a mummy. With it no dry sinuses or lungs. AND you must lower your heat because moist air maintains heat much better. Everyone that uses heat in the winter SHOULD have one.

I like the concept of this humidifier, but the reality doesn't live up to the comcept. The humidistat (or whatever it's called, the little box in-line on the power cord) doesn't work correctly. It's supposed to turn on or shut off the unit when you reach the desired humidity. It doesn't. I set it at 60% and it just keeps running forever. If I set it at 55% it works properly, but not at 60%. My daughter's does the very same thing, but her's does it at the 50% setting. It's a very poor design, or just another cheap Chinese circuit board that doesn't work correctly. Maybe if they made these in the U.S. with American workers who take pride in their work, it would work better. Both humidifiers are going back to Sears. For the cost of these you'd think they'd work better. You'd be wrong.

Like others who have reviewed this unit, my left tank did not empty in the beginning, even though my unit was perfectly level according to my carpenter?s level. At the intermediate and high fan speeds the unit sounds like a propeller plane taking off. As suggested by another reviewer I found flashing under the valve caps and removed it to ensure proper leak-free seating. The consumer should not have to do this and indicates poor quality control. Every 10 minutes or so the unit gurgles as air goes into the tank - annoying when you?re awake but not noticed when asleep. In its favor, the unit performs as it?s supposed to and keeps humidity within the correct setpoints. I like the digital readout that indicates humidity levels at any given time. Once I raised the front of the unit slightly higher than level, the left tank emptied just fine. The lowest fan speed is very quiet.

The humidifier was delivered on time as forcast, in great shape, and started right up. The only thing that kept me from giving a five star rating was the mis-calibration of the humudity control.

Injection molding not well done. Many edges have overflow waste plastic that does not make the product look like a quality item. 1st impression was to return it. However with a congested toddler at home and hoping it would make a difference, I decided to give it a try. Plastic overflow of the injection molding process prevented the water tank caps from fitting properly and both tanks leaked excessively. Cleaning that excess plastic from the tank openings remedied the problem. Tank plunger valve leaked and required similar cleaning. Excess pieces of waste plastic in both tanks required flushing to get them out. On setup, I had to disassemble and reassemble the filters, air baffles, and fans to get all the internal components seated semi-properly. The filters did not fit well but ?well enough? to believe they would work sufficiently. After an hour of tweaking the product, the system worked well in F1 mode. Other modes are loud. Review in 3 months.
