Kenmore 370 water softener
We had an older system, which has seized to exist. Since our prior very positive experiences with SEARS (knowledgeable staff and excellent service) we headed out to the nearest location and decided to purchase 370 model, which was recommended by the salesman. We decided also to get an extended warranty just a bit over 100 dollars for additional three years (total of four years of coverage). I usually opt against extended warranties, but this time it seemed like a reasonable option considering how hard is water in San Antonio. Flex connectors are a must just make sure that all four rubber gaskets are included, which I did not... The installation was relatively easy (even I could do that): pipe cutter, sanding paper, flux and solder, propane torch that's all what was needed. Once installed, the water softener was very easy to program, it allows for selection of the salt type (we have a septic system hence potassium chloride is preferred). After using it for approximately four weeks, we can appreciate much better quality of water than ever before.

I kinda wanted this thing to work...
Ordered online, waited over a week before we were notified that our unit had arrived at the store, which is longer than what was promise. Not a big deal, though. We hired our regular plumbing man to install the unit and he did a fine job. We were so happy to finally be shed of our WaterBoss 500, which has been a curse for so long. The main problem with the WaterBoss was that it would fill the brine tank, melt all the salt, and not soften the water. Numerous calls to the company left us feeling like we'd flunked an IQ test. So with our new Series 370 Sears water softener installed, the first thing I noticed was that the storage tank (where you put in the salt) filled with water and melted the salt. And also that water continued to run (at a trickle), 24 hours, inside the cabinet, trickling down over the resin tank. I couldn't figure out how to make the water stop running, so we called Sears for a service call and waited 10 days or so for a service visit. Within a few minutes of investigation, the technician showed us 1.) A badly-formed plastic moulding which had been manufactured with a crack in it, guaranteeing a leak and 2.) A picture in the service manual of a part which was completely missing. So, our $700.00 water softener was shipped with a defective plastic moulding with a crack moulded into it, and was also missing a critical component due to an assembly oversight. So, the technician told us that he would order the parts and would then be back to install them in a week. It's 3 weeks after the purchase of this device and we have no soft water, just a rather expensive defective water softener. Perhaps when the technician arrives next week to install the parts which arrived here a few days ago, he can fix it. I am not pleased with this purchase. I hated the WaterBoss because it didn't work, but at took a while before it broke and I got some use out of it. Not so this thing - it was shipped with missing and broken parts directly from Sears. This purchase was a mistake.

Immediate improvement

Great softener.  We moved into a new home and the previous owners weren't using a softener.  I could hardly wash my hair the water was so hard.  We had this installed and I saw an improvement in the water immediately.

In our old home we had a leased softener machine and this Kenmore machine is so nice.  I love that we can control how hard or soft to make the water and the regeneration is so easy to do.  Also, I love the low salt warning.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Easiest installation and most reliable one out there

I just replaced a 10 year old kenmore genius II water softener with the 2009 version (the 370 series).  The valve was the same one from before.  All I had to do was unpack it, attach a couple hoses and connect the valve.  It took me all of an hour to get it up and running (not counting the sanitation phase).  It has been working great and I enjoy my tap water again.

Works Great

I replaced our old Culligan with the 370 softener a little over a year ago. Very happy with the unit. The regeneration-when-needed feature is great. Salt usage is way less than before. Installation was slightly painful, but that's a reflection on my plumbing skills. The instructions were very good.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore 370 water softener

I purchased this product in March 08, installed it myself with no problems at all - took about 4 hrs but I needed to install a bypass with the 3-valve setup - I just like to solder stuff so it was fun too. If your hired license plumber is having difficulties installing this unit, then find a new plumber. We have extremely hard water, 30+ grains of hardness, and this machine makes our water very soft. It works great, only thing that is not operational is the gallons per hour and avg gallons per day counters are still set to ZERO on our unit. Even when I open up 2-3 faucets in the house, the flowage counters still read ZERO. So I'm going to call Sears today (6/11/08) about this and see how long it takes the issue to get resolved. I know I'm getting soft water because I took a sample to my local Sears and it test very soft, so I know the unit works, just now sure if its regenerating as efficiently on its own (if at all). I've regenerated it several times myself as the salt was not going down at all. Will post an update once it's fixed. btw - we had two companies come out and test our water and give us their song and dance show as to why their $3000+ system is better then all else. This unit for around $600 is just as every bit as good as theirs. This is also my 3rd house where I've installed a Kenmore unit.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore water softener 370

Excellent unit...What a difference...I had very hard water and now it's very soft. Very user freindly...Very easy to install. I also recomend the 18 or 24" flex hoses...They make it even easier....This unit is very easy on salt also. And very quiet. I also recomend a whole house water filter....Before the softener. WAY TO GO KENMORE!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Kenmore 370 Series Water Softener

We are very happy with our new 370 Series water softener. We installed a very similar Sears softener 12 years ago and it worked without incident until a few months ago when the water just wasn't quite right and the shower started to become a chore again to keep clean. I look back now and realize how well the old unit performed. With no qualms at all we purchased a new Sears water softener. I installed it myself. The instructions were clear. It took me several hours to install (4) and the unit was a bit heavier than I remembered one to be but it went well. WOW!!! The water is soft again and the salt use is noticeably less too. The control panel is easy to read and use and has some features our old unit didn't. It has a Gallons Per Minute display instead of just a Water Flow Indicator and Average Daily Gallons Used can be displayed. Both of those help keep the water use under control. The lighted salt tank is a nice touch.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
