Reviewers may have received a benefit, like a sweepstakes entry or rewards program points, in exchange for writing a review.
Those benefits were not conditioned on the positive or negative content of the review.
I did some major research on wine cellars, and I couldn't find anything definitive on this particular Kenmore model (35). There is some mention of the Elite (38) model, see ****************, Consumersearch, etc., but I finally made up my mind by talking to people who sell and fix appliances. They said that the Kenmore is a good product. Every product or brand has an occasional "dud", and those are the people who tend to complain or make a fuss. Satisfied people just appreciate the fact that a product works; very satisfied people tell other people and write positive reviews.
For the price class, under $500, this is a quality wine cellar. I got it for $239 (20% sale) add tax and shipping and 5 yr warranty = almost $400 (still a deal). It is nice looking unit (subjective). It is quiet, almost silent (not subjective). I put my own digital thermometer inside to check the upper and the lower rack temperature. I also understand that 35 bottle capacity means standard size 750 ml bottles. Some bottles are bigger, like Pinot Noir and Champagne, so expect to fit less. I am tired of reading reviews of people who complain about capacity when they do not understand that bottles come in different sizes, like people and pants and shoe sizes. I didn't find Energy Star units in this price range; expect to pay $10-20 more per YEAR in energy, the price of a 88-89 point wine. If you want all the fancy extras, you'll have to spend more (or buy the Elite 38 - the lock, dual temp. zones, and wood shelves are nice, but money is tight. Maybe I get it for Xmas!).
I keep my wines at 60-61 F. I have mostly reds, Cabs and Merlots, in the $40-50 range. I hope to collect these for a year or three or five. Cheaper stuff, I buy off the rack or keep in the fridge to drink right away. When I fill this unit up in a few months (and paychecks), I will buy another one, the Elite one with the lock, store better wine, like reserves and special selections. Shall I get a third in case the one has to be serviced or repaired? I purchased the 5 year warranty, so I don't have to worry. I was told that they will service the unit every year, cleaning and check-up, as long as I make an appointment. A repair will cost more than the warranty, so it is worth it. I am just thinking about where my wine will go when it is services (hence the extra - empty - unit).
I am not have much money, so I be a wise spender. If money was no object, I would have a big home with a built-in cellar. If I was upper-middle class, I would buy an Eurocave or similar. I am, however, a struggling American wage-earner, and I think that the Kenmore 35 bottle wine cellar is perfect for me. Good luck with your research. I love all wine. Cheers!

This unit will not get above 48 degrees. Too cold for Red wine. Sears replaced the thermostat and the unit still will not work properly. Very unhappy with this unit.

Bought this to replace 2 others rhat died early deaths - both after the warranty had expired. This has a 5-year compressor warranty, and fits the space we have for it. Pros: Warranty, compact size, style. Cons: NOISE. We have a full-size bottom freezer refigerator that is bearly heard when running. This little unit is noisy!

This wine cooler is fabulous. Brought it home, plugged it in and it cooled quickly. It is quiet and the perfect size. My husband and I love having so many different bottles of wine cooled and ready to drink.

this wine cellar is loud and noisy and would not keep accurate temperature. Tried to return however, i was out of country and beyond the 90 day limit :(

I saw this wine cellar and decided to stop into a local Sears and check it out as a possible kegerator kit fridge. I measured and decided it would fit a 1/6 keg and a 5 pound CO2 tank perfectly with all the shelves removed. I brought it home and grabbed my jigsaw and cut a hole into the top and was pleasantly surprised to not find any electrical or freon tubing inside the casing, only insulation (Good insulation at that). Please note that I installed my kegerator tap into a bar, not the top of the wince cellar. There is a wire that runs from the inside LED light to the back of the cabinet that would simply not make that type of installation possible. I turned the cool setting to its highest setting and tossed an outdoor thermometer in and waited a few hours. Wow was I surprised to see it get down to 31 degrees! I know as a wine cellar this is way too cold, but I have discovered that the temperature control does allow you to get the temp up to around 50 which is far better for wine. If you're looking for a wine cellar, I'm sure this is a good one. As a bar kegerator, it's great.

I've had this product for a little more than a year. The temperature has never worked well. It would make a better refrigerator than a wine cellar. The temperature adjustment is on the top back and is a dial showing "max" and "min". Even at the lowest temperature setting the unit is far too cold (30's degree range). The only positive thing I can say is that it is reasonable well constructed for the price.

I've had my unit now for a bit more than a month and I am very pleased with it. It is a no-frills, basic device which is to be expected at this price point. I have it in my family room and it is very quiet. You literally cannot hear it and I am fussy when it comes to noise (it is in the room with my home theater). the front glass door hinge can be moved from the left to right side making it flexible for a variety of locations. Kenmore has changed the design since some of the earlier reviewers purchased theirs as mine has a temperature control on the back of the unit. I set it at the highest (temperature) setting and it keeps the wine around 54 degrees. It looks great and seems to be built well and is priced right. As others have commented, Pinot, Syrah and sparkling wine bottles will reduce the bottle capacity but this is to be expected. The price is also right. I will likely purchase another.

I got it at Sears for $209 and pick it up in the store (no S&H) and if it is true That. The Temperature control is very complicated to handle (They put one on the back of the unit in latest adquisitions) also the price and the performance is very good. You hace to set the Temp control very close to OFF settings to jet the 52~.62 F. If you jet it for less than $210 it is a good deal

I bought this as a Wedding anniversary for my wife, and I did more research than probably the average person. I was torn between this model and a different Danby model, finally settling on this one at the last minute, even though there wasn't a lot of reviews on it. I gotta say I am extremely pleased! Mine has the Temperature Control setting on the back, maybe that is the reason I am not having the Temperature issues some of the other people are having. And it is extremely quiet! I read a lot of reviews on other products that the biggest complaint people had was that they were extremely loud. With the layout of our house the kitchen, living room and dining room are all one open area (no seperation walls), and we can't even hear it when it's running. We often forget it is even there. You won't lose any sleep with this unit even if it is in your bedroom with you. The only con that I have is I had a little difficulty getting it level. I ended up pulling the adjustment foot off and having to place little pieces of the package it came in under the front so the door wouldn't slide against the tile whenever it's opened. I can truely see buying another one if this one becomes too small. Excellent purchase, can't be beat for the price!

Kenmore 35 Bottle Wine Cellar - noisy, you better keep it far away from your bedroom or even TV room Temperature control is a joke. It kept 46F on max setting and 48F on min. setting. It is OK for keeping your drinks cold. But to call this refrigerator "Wine Cellar" is too much.... The one huge plus is the cost.
