Those benefits were not conditioned on the positive or negative content of the review.
First off, I only allow socks, slippers or indoor shoes like my the high-heeled wedge mule faux fur house shoes?no filthy outside/street shoes past the entranceway, but I still have a battle with my carpet.
When it comes to the Rug Doctor, I was so OVER the back cramps and back pain ?hangover? the following day, from all that leaning over the tub to fill water buckets or dump the dirty water canister, not to mention all the back and forth lugging of the clean or dirty water to do the filling up and emptying. It was a very, very, sweaty, muscle man job and the whole ordeal deterred me from renting the machine more than once or twice a year.
Finally, I decided to do an online search to see if something compact, light and breezy even existed, when it came to a carpet shampooer?something that I could also store in my apartment's small utility closet alongside my vacuum, steam mop, ironing board and laundry supplies. Something I could pull out every couple of months. (Not your mother's expensive ?old school?, heavy-duty machine for the house that she stores in the basement and never uses because it's too heavy and too much trouble to bring upstairs and use.)
SHAMPOOING GOALS
(1) Clean & freshen up soiled/worn/weighed down looking carpeting.
(2) Attack DEEPLY soiled entranceway and hallways
(3) Attack drink spills/stains in living room
(4) Attack loose powder foundation makeup and blush stains near vanity area
(5) Kill all over dust mites & allergens
END RESULT WITH FIRST TRIAL
Carpets look and smell clean & fresh. Ahhhhhh...a clean home without the back-breaking work. Easy breezy carpet shampooing and therefore no sweat off the brow...WHAT A DELIGHT THIS MACHINE IS!!!!
HOOVER Quick & Light VS. The RUG DOCTOR
PROS
(1) Compact, LIGHT and simple VS. HEAVY mess to get to car, then home and back AND back-breaking job of lugging clean and dirty water to and from machine. (Manual recommends 2 passes for Hoover but I did 5-10 passes, as I always did with the Rug Doctor, depending on how soiled the area was?as I am a neat freak and want the carpet truly sanitized, as well as soil free.
(Note: Pleasure to use. With Rug Doctor, I would lug a large bucket of hot water from the tub 20x to fill the water canister in the shampooer and at same time lug the dirty water canister to the tub 20x in order to clean the carpet in the entire apartment. With my new HOOVER, I only filled the gallon canister 4x and emptied the dirty canister 6x to do everything but the bedroom or ¾ of the total apartment. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!)
(2) ROTATING power spin brush VS. 2 measly rows of motionless brushes
(3) Powerful suction leaving carpets damp VS. less powerful suction leaving carpets very wet
CONS
Would prefer the multi-circular spinning brushes seen on the larger Hoover models.
HINT: If machine?s high pitch noise (signaling that water needs to be emptied) sounds off early and canister is not full, simply remove foam cover (that gets filled with soap bubbles, leading machine to believe the water has reached the filter) off lid?s dipstick.

easy to fill up and empty. easy to use on stairs.

I bought this to clean a white and pastel print carpet in my living room. While the carpet (after one use) is not brand-new bright, it is significantly improved. The two-tank system works nicely. You have to preheat water yourself (on the stove or in an electric kettle) but it is worth the cost savings. My carpet took longer to clean because I kept having to pick up the dog hair that the steam vac was taking out of the carpet and depositing everywhere. I also had to clean the rotating brushes of the hair afterwards too. The dirty tank is easy to empty and clean. I recommend running hot water through it to get all the grime out . My only complaint was that I had to refill the tank once while cleaning to do the whole 9' x 6' carpet and that it took a while to do. I had hoped this might remove all the dirt and spots and stains in one go, but tough spots need to be addressed individually and I'll have to do a few more passes with this cleaner.

I decided to get this one because I want something small, quick and less hassle. I have three children under nine year old, they left black spots on random areas. I tested it by comparing clean side and dirty side. I can see the big difference. It works. I was hesitated to buy this after reading reviews, but I'm glad I got this. Easy to put it together, easy to clean.

Cleaned carpet thoroughly and efficiently. Works great! Sample bottle of solution is more than enough to do the entire house (several times over) :-)
