Great Dust Buster! November 13, 2010

We bought the Holmes Hepa Type Tower when we were stationed at Tinker AFB Oklahoma it was always dusty and there were several days where the air quality was very poor. I had never seen a dust storm until we lived there. I have never had allergy issues until we living in Oklahoma, this air purifier was amazing at keeping the dust out of the air in our home and keeping us all healthy!

I recently bought one for my sister who has three dogs. She found the difference that is made in her home very noticeable.

Becareful if you have kids, mine are 5 years old and the unit does tip over easily so keep that in mind when you are placing it in your home.

Stopped working after 3 days October 13, 2011

Bought the unit because of the features and the design. It looked like it had promises. The first day the unit worked great! The second day it started to slow down a bit. By the fourth day only 1 vent had any air movement coming from it. Checked the unit out to make sure filter was inserted right and went over instructions again but everything seemed to be in place. Decided to run the unit a couple move days and got the same results. Return the unit to where I bought it and did not pick up another one. I was kinda of afraid too after reading the warranty information on the product and what the manufactures want us to do? They want us to send the unit to them if we have a problem with their product instead of taking the product to a local dealer to have it repair. I am not going to pay $25.00 in shipping (includes insurance) to send the product that I paid $80.00 for. Are they out of their minds?? All I have to say I was very grateful the store took the unit back from me. I might of lost $80.00 plus the extra filters cost totaling $132.00. Then there is the question what do I do for those days the unit is in their repair shop for a week or two? Then there is the shipping back and forth!

    Cons:
    Loud on high setting.,tips easily

I have several dogs in my home that think home is a playground for running and jumping.  I felt that because they were so active inside that the pet dander was probably contributing to my allergies by spreading it and dust throughout the air.  I decided to go with this model for my bedroom because it was designed for a larger area and it was a floor model so it didn't take up dresser space.  I like the design of it.  It has worked very well for me.  I have noticed a decrease in my allergy symptoms since using it regularly.  If you like a "white noise" at night you'll love this set on high because it does produce a much louder noise level when used on that setting.  It seems to work equally well for me on any setting I have used.  The only downfall I have found with the unit is that it's pretty topsy turvy....meaning, it's very easy to tip over by playing dogs or children.  It has been knocked over about a gazillion times, but even after that it continues to work well.  I guess that could be result of good workmanship.  I will purchase another one of these units for the 2nd story of my home.  Works well, hods up well, price is pretty reasonable.

I bought this unit for my large living room.  I bought the smaller unit made by Holmes for my bedroom.  This is a large unit about 2 feet tall.  However the case is black and is not unattractive so it really doesn't stick out when you walk into the room.  The main reason for this purchase was because my seasonal allergies were much worse this year and I was getting sinus headaches almost daily even though I was taking allergy medicine.  There is also a cigarette smoker in the house which didn't help.  Since using this purifier I've been able to cut my allergy medicine to only occasional use.  Also I've had no more sinus headaches even though the pollen counts continue to be high.  The air smells cleaner and fresher.  In fact I no longer notice the cigarette smoke smell.  It's also greatly reduced the amount of dust in my home.  The unit is loud when it is on a high setting.  I generally leave it on medium or low and I don't notice the noise on those levels.  I generally only turn the ionizer on occasionally but I've run the purifier constantly for 2 weeks without any problems.  I was very skeptical that this would help my allergies but with both units going the improvement in my symptoms is amazing.  There is an indicator on top of the unit that tells you when the filter needs to be replaced.  You have to remove the plastic from the filters when you first set it up and they are very easy to reach so changing them should not be a problem.  If you suffer from seasonal allergies or have a smoker in your home you will be pleased with the performance of this purifier.  It also removes cooking odors even though it is in a completely different room from the kitchen.  I'm very happy with this purchase.
