Can't believe the negative reviews!

I have owned this stove for over 10 years and NEVER HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM.  I love it.  We use the griddle all the time and it's so easy to clean.  I did have to look around to find the right size pans and baking dishes for the small oven but William-Sonoma & Sur la Table had a large selection on-line.  I ordered a second rack for the small oven and during the holidays I can cook 2 side dishes in the small oven.  As for the other reviews, stainless steel scratches if you use it alot - just look at a stainless steel sink; I love to cook, do it all the time and I keep my stove VERY clean and have never have ANY rust; oven doors get very hot - be careful!

I'm getting ready to update my kitchen and will be replacing my appliances.  I will be buying this stove again.

Do Not Buy This Range Or Any Frigidaire Product!!!

I know my review is rather long; however, I urge everyone to read it. We made a $1,000 mistake and I hope to keep others from doing the same. Thank you and please read on.

We purchased this range to replace our very old (about 50 years old) but oh-so-much better double oven range. The old range was also a Frigidaire; however, it was made during a time when manufactures cared about their customers. As the old one was a 40" we either needed to get another 40" or completely remodel our kitchen. This was the only 40" option. This range is cheap in every sense of the word except price! It feels like a child's play stove compared to our old one. Putting the modern assembly aside (every appliance you buy these days is awful as far as I am concerned), it's dangerous! We assumed the smaller, second oven door would open from top to bottom as our old one did. It only makes sense, right? There was no information regarding how it opened in the description or specifications. Only after it was delivered did we find that it opens from right to left. And where do your arms go when you put something into a hot oven? On either side that's where. Right against the scalding door. To top it off, our stove was previously between a cabinet and a wall (again we didn't want to remodel which is why we purchased this model). This greatly restricts opening the door. We can get the door opened about 6 inches, that's it. Apparently Frigidaire thinks that everyone should have the same kitchen setup and that the setup should accommodate their stove. Not that their stove should accommodate our kitchens. I contacted Frigidaire over concern of myself and others who buy this range getting burned. At first they didn't respond. After I sent a second email I received a very generic response thanking me for taking the time to write to them. Apparently they don't care if their paying customers get burned on their faulty products. All that said, I highly recommend that no one buy a Frigidaire product at all because they apparently don't care about their customers and I stress that absolutely no one should buy this range unless you enjoy the frustration that will come with owning it and the pain received from the burns as a result of using it

what you have to know

I have owned this stove for 20 years and never had a service call. I have read all the other reviews. Yep the side oven is small, but you can get small pans, loaf pans, etc that work just great. Also there are flat baking pans that you can slide in just like a shelf. Holidays, you can do this with several flat pans and have an excellent warming oven. The griddle. We do have some issues with the coating wearing off over the longer period of time. And after 20 years, the self cleaning doesn't wor and the oven is baking a little hot.. But it has been 20 years. How many appliances last that long these days? I love to cook, have copper pots. Everyone says ELECTRIC? yep, and the various settings work extremely well with the copper pots because they are so sensitive to heat. Bottom drawer, if you overload it with pots, yep it will come off the track. But you overloaded it, in my case with cast iron pots which are extremely heavy. Took some out, no problem. Only issue is replacing the burner pans under the coils these are getting expensive these days. Getting ready to replace it. Looked at the other 40 inches (Italian) very iffy on service and no double oven. And the 48 inches - extremely expensive and when you check repair records - not great. Seems like the more you pay, the more repairs you get. Only issue I face if whether I want to give up the griddle. My family really likes it for pancakes, and it is one less appliance you don't have to buy and store. And it is much larger than the tiny griddles that you buy as an accessory for the pricey models. Bottom line - I cook for 5 people; it has withstood 3 teenagers using it, and one 90 year old with Alzheimers that turned on all the units and griddle one day! It is a great value for its price. Bon appetit!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

old vs new

I have the white model of this appliance sans griddle and it is very very old 40+ years. I love it and will be replacing it as it has seen better days. I will be buying this black and stainless version with griddle and I am so excited. I was disappointed in the people who ripped on the side oven door and the way it opens but it works for me so that is all that matters. The only thing negative is it only comes with one rack for the side oven so I will have to order an extra one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Disgraceful 40"double oven range

I've had two 40 double oven ranges and need a new one. The first was a Hotpoint "55) the best..had a deep well & electric outlets(lost in flood) 2nd Almond GE (above features were discontinued... thanks to our government..NOW some fool has decided to alter the former pull down door of the small oven to open to the side so you can burn yourself and obstruct opening of drawers and cabinets to the left. Theonly thing made better these days: shoe laces.

Love this range

Three years ago we had to replace the original stove in our 1956 home. This range was a perfect replacement. It holds and cooks a 25 pound turkey to perfection. It bakes cakes done and golden brown. We love it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Wow - I am surprised by these bad reviewws

I have had this over for about 4 years and love it.  I have to admit I don't use the side oven as much as I should as it's hard to find pans to fit.  I have never burned myself on it either.  Like any over it is hot - be careful. Also, I love the large storage drawer underneath and the griddle!!!

Sad review of Frigidaire side by side oven

was disappointed to read the previous reviews as this is the kind of electric range I was looking for. (the top/bottom double oven in free-standing ranges is too physically challenging for older knees). But gaps in the stove top and and a side opening door are show stoppers. darn it.

Frigidaire FFEF4017 unsafe and dangerous

I purchased this item about 6 months ago.. The side (smaller oven) door has burned a couple of people while they were attempting to remove items from the oven.. The range top has a inch and a half of separation from the back control panel. This caused a short when water boiled over to the back. The range top has a gap in the front which has the appearence of either error in engineering or an error in the assembly.. Either way, Sears repair refuses to do anything about it, even if it poses a electrical hazard.. When attempting to move the range, I had my fingers caught in the gap which resulted in a lacerated finger.

Though it described as stainless steel, we have had rust spots appearing over several areas.

This item should be taken off the market and recall all the ones that were purchased.

This is a lawsuit waiting to happen!!
