Delivers value and beauty
This pedestal humidifer not only delivers a constant humidity to your home, it looks great too! The design of the unit fits into most decor's. The quiet fan provides an even humidity throughout your home and provides the benefits of a humidity controlled environoment. The casters provide portability so it moves with you. The easy to read display provides reassurance of the moisture delivery.
The selling point was the whole house delivery of humidity in an actractive unit. Not interested in those big boxes that look obtrusive - this unit delivers so much more and is attractive. My relatives thought it was a plant stand (I have a plant on the top as it has a tile top for just this purpose). All around, this was an excellent purchase.

Humidifier is top-shelf but included wick needs serious redesign
There are not many top fill humidifier models on the market anymore. I think they began passing away in the 90's. And by the way, "top fill" does not mean they fill necessary from the top but that they are filled without the use of jugs, containers, or bottles). I really like the 9 different fan speeds, the removable 12" x 12" marble top piece, and the fact that it seems to hold a good deal more than the advertised 3.5 gallons in its reservoir.
But I have a serious beef with the design of the 1043 wick that comes with and seems most available as a replacement wick. It sucks so bad. Its a horrible design. The horizontal glue lines that you see in most pictures of the wick (again I'm talking about the wick not the humidifier itself) are the only thing that support the wick once its sufficiently soaked with water after a couple of days. The problem is gravity is not horizontal, its vertical, and the glue lines should have been vertical too because being horizontal they support squat and the wick sags and collapses until its totally worthless.
So I'm left stuffing objects and trying to set up platforms underneath the wick to scrunch it toward to the top to make up for the space made at the top when it collapses downward.

Not too bad
It looks like brown plastic. It was hard to put together. It's easy enough to fill, but there is no water level meter on it, so you don't know if it's low until it runs completely out. It's a nice size for my small apartment.
I would recommend this product to a friend.

LOVE IT
We've owned it for a little over a week now and granted things could still happen but so far are VERY happy with it. The day we got it, I had really bad upper respiratory infection and had no voice. Within a few hours after hooking it up, I had a voice again. I couldn't believe it. I also have severely dry skin and have noticed that I haven't been itching very much at all. Not sure what people want as far as noise, but this IMO is no more noisy, in fact I think less noisy than other humidifiers we have owned. It is so easy to fill with water, we just fill up a gallon milk jug and a half gallon and put 3 gallon and one half gallon in the front of it. The other systems we owned, only my husband could fill the tanks as they were too heavy for me to carry. I am VERY happy and glad we got the last one at our Sears store. At end of year, you just let it run dry (there's a feature for it) and leave it up all year

Quiet operation on lower fan speed levels. Whole-house is a bit of a misnomer. My main level is about 1200 square feet and it could not keep up during the last cold snap in Minnesota. I had to augment with another unit to keep the main level of the house at 40%.

Purchased EP9-500 on line 1-14-2013. Photo shows a high gloss attractive unit, which caught my eye and I thought it would blend well with the other furniture in our home. After returning home from the store, where I picked up the unit and opened the box, I was not pleased to find a flat and dull finished unit. I will give it time to see if it produces the results as promised. Unless there are two different units and I ordered the wrong one I feel tricked.
