really like this bench...
I just put this bench together, today. It arrives in one box, all of the hardware/directions are included. There are no written instructions, only diagrams. About a 4 on the difficulty scale of 1-10. The color is nicer than shown, in my opinion. It's a nice, rich cherry finish. It's made of MDF, but most folks wouldn't notice the difference. It comes in 7 big pieces that easily screw together. The top bench lifts open with 2 hinged seats, not one big panel. I have a small condo and wanted to buy this so I could use it as seating AND my linen closet. There's plenty of room in the storage area, I have fit all my sheets, towels, and table linens in it. There's no weird varnishes, lubricants or smells, like some assembly required items have. (anybody know what I mean?) For the price, this bench is definitely a winner.

This item looks nice in pictures, but when you get it home and put it together, it is a different story. First, The assembly instructions are minimal and are written very poorly. Second, The pieces don't fit together sqaurely, so one of our seat lids rubs against the side arm rest every time it is opened and closed. Lastly, the spring-loaded hinges are too strong for this bench and pull out the screws on the rear seat hinges. We have returned one unit already to exchange it for a new one, but it is not worth the hassle again with it being so big and heavy. I gave it two stars instead of one, because once it is all together, it looks nice as in the pictures, but if it is not functional as a storage solution, then what is the point?
