Great Starter Set
I bought this set for my fiance for Christmas this year as he didn't have any tools with which to work on his Jetta TDI. It has been a great set, with all the basics and not a lot of extraneous stuff. The tool box is nice (ESPECIALLY the metal drawers), holds everything, and is easily portable.
The only thing I would recommend is to get the drawer organizers for the sockets and to evaluate your projects and get other pieces one at a time. I would suggest getting a set of allen sockets if you plan on using them a lot . . . the allen wrenches are pretty difficult to really get any leverage on.

182pc mechanics set
Got this to use as a junkyarding/portable tool box. Chrome plating is chipping off all tools and tools never stay in the box/trays and get stuck under the bottom drawer or fall out in the back of my car. I got it because it seemed like good value/ good selection for the money but now many are missing. It might be good for a person who leaves the box in their garage and hardly uses the tools otherwise this tool set sucks... Very disapointed, Ive gotten better quality tools from harbor frieght. What happen to craftsman quality?

182 pc tool set with box
If I did not give this set to my son for his birthday, I would have kept it for myself. Even though the box is plastic, it is very sturdy. I also like the molded drawer inserts to contain the wrenches and sockets. Very organized. I bought a similar set when I was just starting out when I was 18, although my box is metal and is definitely showing its age from wear and tear. I also had to buy socket trees to keep the sockets in some kind of order. I still have it. I have broken a few sockets along the way and Craftsman has always replaced them. No questions asked. I am 55 now and I felt that my son also deserved to have tools that will last him a lifetime too.

Opinion on tool set
182 pc mechanics tool set with 3 drawer chest. Great quality, good price. Was very disappointed that I was unable to get the $10 off coupon honored that Sears had given me because I put this item in layaway. Little surprised there are no screwdrivers with this set. But the tools that are inside are quite nice.

Good Tools
I was excited to get this Craftsman "starter" set. There is a good selection of quality tools, that I'm glad are covered by the Craftsman warranty, because I'm hard on my tools. My only complaint, and the reason I am only give this set a four star rating, instead of five, is the cheap plastic drawer organizers. I'm afraid that they won't last very long and I really do like to keep my tools organized instead of just thrown into a drawer. And although I have looked, admittedly not extremely thoroughly, I have not been able to find a quality drawer organizer to replace them.
