This magazine is not a typical collection of recipes. Instead, each article describes the steps to cooking a certain kind of dish, including lots of variations that the Cook's Magazine staff have tried. At the end of the article, there are usually a few recipes, but the real value in the publication is learning more about how food and recipes work. If you are looking for a quick way to get dinner on the table, this is not the right choice. I also really like and trust the product recommendations in this magazine.

Are you tired of those cooking magazines that mostly consist of travel/alcohol ads or have those clever sponsored stories that look like legit articles until you realize they're just going on and on about trying to sell you this one product? Now this is the cooking magazine for the person who's interested in cooking, reviews of ingredients and kitchen tools, and useful tips for cooks. This magazine features absolutely no ads. The only time they mention specific brands is in their review section, which is honest and non-biased. You'll often find some of the cheaper budget brands getting great reccomendation scores even above the more "fancy" expensive brands. Sure, it might not feature eye-catching full-color photos and cool logos and pagesetting, but this is all about cooking. And that's what I am interested in.

Cook's Illustrated looks like a wonderfully old-fashioned magazine with its black and white illustrations, but its advice on cooking techniques, utensils and food items is definitely up-to-date. Great advice for the beginning gourmand, based on the America's Test Kitchen show. The perfect magazine for anyone seriously interested in cooking.
