Laundry just became fun with Kmart's washing machines
Keeping clothes clean feels like a part-time job for many people, which is why it's so important to have a great washing machine. You want one that will not only get your clothes clean, but operate smoothly, use as little water as possible, be energy-efficient, and fit with your dryer in your laundry room. That may seem like quite the list, but with the help of Kmart's selection of washers, you're sure to find just the right one.
Capacity is one of the major considerations that will likely affect what washer you end up purchasing. If only one or two people live in your household and need to wash clothing, a smaller washer will be perfectly adequate for your needs, while also saving you a bit of money and space. Smaller washers hold just over three cubic feet of clothing, whereas models on the larger end of the size spectrum have a capacity of nearly five cubic feet, which is perfect for a large family. If you're looking for something especially tiny, consider a portable washer with a capacity of just two cubic feet.
The other major decision to make is whether you want a top-loading or front-loading washer. Although today's top-loading washers are becoming more energy efficient, a front-loading machine is the way to go if you're concerned about the environment. Because the drum spins on a vertical plane, you don't need to fill it with as much water to get the whole load of laundry wet, sudsy, and clean. Top-loading machines often have larger potential capacities, though, so it's a trade-off.
One new feature to consider as you're shopping is a steam cycle. This eliminates the need to thoroughly pre-treat stains by running a steam cycle before the regular wash. This helps release stains from fabrics before the wash cycle, helping you save time and energy when it comes to laundry. Steam washers are typically front-loading, and they can also be useful for sanitizing clothing and sheets with very high temperatures.
Once you know the general type of washing machine you want to purchase, the last factor to consider is size. If you have a large laundry room, you may want to choose a raised front-loading washer, which makes it easy to get laundry in and out. In a smaller space, a stackable front-loading washer is ideal because you can put the dryer right on top and have all of your laundry appliances right there in a column. You can also stack in a drawer, to keep all your detergent and laundry accessories out of sight.
